چکیده

The detection of high-energy cosmic rays above a few hundred TeV is realized by the observation of extensive air-showers. By using the multi-detector setup of KASCADEGrande, and here in particular the detectors of the large Grande array, the energy spectrum and the elemental composition of high-energy cosmic rays in the energy range from 10 PeV to 1 EeV are investigated. The estimation of energy and mass of the high-energy primary particles is based on the combined analysis of the total number of charged particles and the total number of muons measured by the detector arrays of Grande and KASCADE, respectively. The latest analysis results have shown that in the all-particle spectrum two features are present: a hardening of the spectrum at energies around 20 PeV and a steepening, i.e. a knee-like structure, at 80-90 PeV. The latter one was found to be due to a decrease of flux of the heavy mass component. 23rd European Cosmic Ray Symposium (and 32nd Russian Cosmic Ray Conference) IOP Publishing Journal of Physics: Conference Series 409 (2013) 012005 doi:10.1088/1742-6596/409/1/012005 Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd 1

Energy spectrum and elemental composition of cosmic rays in the PeV region Recent results and future prospects of the KASCADE experiment

KASCADE (KArlsruhe Shower Core and Array DEtector) is determining flux spectra for different primary mass groups to disentangle the knee feature of the primary cosmic-ray energy spectrum. The energy spectra of the light element groups result in a knee-like bending and a steepening above the knee. The topology of the individual knee positions suggests a rigidity dependence. To proof the rigidity...

KASCADE-Grande: a conclusive experiment on the knee

We present the status and capabilities of the Extensive Air Shower experiment (KASCADE-Grande) which is being realized at Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe through a large collecting area (0.5 km) electromagnetic array (Grande) that will operate jointly with the existing KASCADE detectors. KASCADE-Grande will cover the primary energy range 10 eV < E0 < 10 eV, overlapping with KASCADE around 10 eV, th...

KASCADE and KASCADE-Grande

The KASCADE experiment and its extension KASCADE-Grande have significantly contributed to the current knowledge about the energy spectrum and composition of cosmic rays (CRs) with energies between the knee and the ankle. However, the data of both experiments were analysed separately, although Grande used the muon information of the KASCADE-array. A coherent analysis based on the combined data o...

KASCADE-Grande: Composition studies in the view of the post-LHC hadronic interaction models

The KASCADE-Grande experiment has significantly contributed to the current knowledge about the energy spectrum and composition of cosmic rays for energies between the knee and the ankle. Meanwhile, post-LHC versions of the hadronic interaction models are available and used to interpret the entire data set of KASCADE-Grande. In addition, a new, combined analysis of both arrays, KASCADE and Grand...

KASCADE extensive air shower experiment

The main aim of the KASCADE extensive air shower (EAS) experiment is the determination of the chemical composition of cosmic rays in the energy range around and above the knee at Ek ≈ 3 PeV. A large number of observables is measured simultaneously for each individual event, by the combination of various detection techniques for the electromagnetic, the muonic, and the hadronic component of the ...
